Let's visit France
Interviews
Are you interested in someone elses opinion on what france is like?
I have got two interviews of real French travellers to see what there expierience was like.
Interview with Jennefer Cleeren
Jennefer is Dutch and lived in Europe for 34 years..
Lars:
When did you decide to go to the French Alps?
Jennefer:
As a young girl I always used to go camping during the summer holidays with my parents and my little brother in the Alpes close to the lake “Lac de Serre-Ponçon not too far away from the Italian border. This area has everything to offer for adventurous people : Extreme mountaineering, high altitude walks, cannoeing on the white water of the Durange and cycling on the hills that are common on the tour de France.
When I was older, I went back with my boyfriend, now my husband , to climb and successfully summit the Mont Blanc which is the highest mountain in Europe (almost 5.000 m high. Each year, before having children, we went back several time a year to the Haute Savoie for snowboarding.
Lars:
What do you like the most?
Jennefer:
From the moment you’re in the mountains you feel so overwhelmed by the natural beauty and the high peaks towering kilometres above you. After an exhausting day hiking or snowboarding there’s nothing better than enjoying the beautiful French food, like a cheese fondue in one of the alpine mountain huts.
Lars:
What didn’t you like about your visit?
Jennefer:
A general thing I don’t like is the fact that you will find a lot of litter everywhere. Luckily this has changed a bit over the recent years.
Lars:
What’s the most pleasant experience when looking back upon visiting Paris?
Bart:
Having an early morning coffee in a Bar Tabac or café at “Place du Tertre” at “Montmartre''.
Lars:
Where is it in Paris?
Bart:
It’s actually quite central in the heart of Paris.
Lars:
Why do you like this place so much?
Bart:
It’s not a major monument, it’s one of the places where you can really feel the rich cultural history of France.
The Montmartre district is a place for artists, in particular painters. Painters like Dali, Picasso, Mondrian and van Gogh all had their studios in this area.
Lars:
What do you think about the real attractions and monuments?
Bart:
They are not to miss attractions but if you really want to experience the cultural background than you’re better of going to less touristic places like Place du Tertre or even just take a stroll over Père Lachaise Cemetery where you find Monumental ,castle like tombs of numerous famous people to little grave stones like Jim Morrison’s one (singer of the Doors)
Lars:
Have you ever had a bad experience?
Bart:
There’s not a real bad experience that stands out. You have to realise though that French people barely speak English and that you really have to try to speak in French to them!!!
